In September 2016, the Kinder Foundation and Houston Endowment provided a record $5 million donation to SPARK to increase park equity in the greater Houston region. The City of Houston committed an additional $450,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funding over the next three years for qualifying schools.

With this gift, SPARK will impact neighborhoods in “park deserts” by transforming playgrounds at 30 schools—many outside Loop 610—in 12 independent school districts throughout the greater Houston region, and, hopefully inspire additional support.
