Bush Center

The Kinders were interested in the ambitious vision of former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, to make a positive global impact by creating the George W. Bush Institute, an action-oriented organization, focused on results-based solutions for improving the human condition.

The Bush Institute assembled a team of top experts, scholars, business leaders and practitioners to address today’s challenges: improve America’s public schools; foster democracy and support freedom advocates; save lives through global health programs; promote free markets and economic growth; empower women as catalysts of change; and honor the service and sacrifice of our military.

The Bush Center is located on a 28-acre site on the campus of Southern Methodist University (SMU) – a distinguished, nationally-ranked University in the heart of Dallas. The new building houses the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the Bush Institute, and was dedicated on April 25, 2013.

The Foundation’s gift of $10 million supported the construction of the George W. Bush Presidential Center as well as the work of the Bush Institute, which is the innovative policy arm of the Bush Center.
